Peppermint Essential Oil – Uses & Benefits

This is the second in a series of highlighting doTERRA essential oils you can cook with together with a whole host of other uses and therapeutic benefits.Peppermint essential oils is one of my favourites!  Apart from making a mean choc-mint anything it has some incredible therapeutic & practical benefits too. The benefits of peppermint oil come mostly fromMenthol, Menthone, 1,8-Cineolewhich comes from the leaf. A high menthol content—like that found in the doTERRA Peppermint essential oil—distinguishes the best quality Peppermint from other products.

BENEFITS OF PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL doterra peppermint essential oil

  • energising – put a drop in your hand (with a drop of Wild Orange oil is nice too), rub yours hands together, cup them over your nose and breath them in

USES OF PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL


Ways to cook with it:

  • add  drops to your water bottle, shake and sip throughout the day
  • dip a toothpick into the essential oil and then put the toothpick into a cup of hot water to make a peppermint tea (a whole drop is too much! As 1 drop = 28 cups of peppermint tea)
  • make choc-mint bliss balls
  • try this Healthy Choc-mint slice
  • Choc-Mint Popsicles
  • add a drop to a green smoothie – it really add a burst of freshness

  • add to a spray bottle of water to get rid of ants/repel bugs – spray in affected areas eg around windows and doors
  • diffuse to create an uplifting mood in the house – blends beautifully with Wild Orange and Frankincense essential oils
  • use in homemade candles, soaps and skin care (also great in shampoos)
  • diffuse when your energy levels are low and you need a natural pick-me-up
  • inhale for a non-stimulant, invigorating pick-me-up on long drives
  • use in a cold compress to cool the body down
  • apply topically to relieve feelings of tension eg on the temples/at the back of your neck
  • apply to scalp & hair to help with  healthy hair growth. For more info check out this article.

Caution

  • avoid getting peppermint oil in your eyes!! If you do put a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil or even olive oil in your eye to dilute it, not water.
  • avoid peppermint oil when breastfeeding as it may affect your milk supply.
