How to make chocolate

how to make chocolate

Did you know that making your own chocolate is EASY? You only need 3-4 ingredients, 5 minutes and you’re done. No dairy, no bad fats, no nasty refined sugar, just melt, mix, set and eat.  You can have so much fun too with adding flavours and textures and using different shapes molds.  The little silicone molds are super cheap at places like Kmart so you can try a variety.  You can also use the mold for making these gelatin gummies too if you’re feel adventurous!

For a firmer chocolate use the cacao butter (it will also add to the chocolate-y taste) but if you don’t have it, just make with coconut oil and make sure if it’s a warm day they get eaten straight from the fridge.

This recipe makes an amazing chocolate sauce to drizzle over ice cream or to dip your popsicles in too.

With the addition of essential oils you can try a whole range of flavours – just use food grade oils.  I’ll list a whole lot of flavour suggestions but I’m sure you will have your own suggestions too.

How to make chocolate – recipe

  • 3/4 cup cacao powder
  • 3/4 cup coconut oil (or 1/2 cup cacao butter + 1/4 cup coconut oil)
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (or to taste)
  • additional flavours – add a couple of drops of essential oils such as peppermint, ginger, fennel (think chocolate bullets), lime + pinch salt, lavender, wild orange or  cinnamon.  You can also add a small amount of vanilla extract, a pinch of salt or some caramel stevia.

Melt coconut oil and cacao butter with the maple syrup.

You can also keep it in a jar at room temperature (or in the fridge) and melt again to pour over ice cream ….
