How to make bliss balls

May 5, 2015 by whatannabelcooks 1 Comment

bliss balls

I often am asked how to make bliss balls and my previous recipe is one of my most popular posts.  That recipe can be found here,  and is great, but perhaps a little more complicated than what I do most times I make bliss balls.

There are a few recipes that are different every time I make them and this is  one of them.  There are no real rules and so many different combinations that work.

Here are 2 basic recipes that are simple, gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free and a good ‘paleo treat’.

Warning: they are addictive and still will give your body a ‘sugar’ hit, so eat sparingly and make the balls perhaps smaller than those pictured.

If you’ve got a favourite combination of flavours, please comment and let us all know what they are.

Caramel Bliss Balls – is is really the ‘base’ recipe to which you can change the flavours

  • 12 (approx 250g) fresh dates pitted
  • 1 cup (140g) raw almonds
  • 1 cup (130g) cashews
  • 1/2 cup (80g) sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup (80g) pepitas
  • 1 cup (60g) shredded coconut
  • 1/3 cup (70g) coconut oil
  • vanilla – to taste – 1/2 tsp approx
  • water
  1. Process the dates in a food processor/blender/thermomix until they look like this:

2. Add all remaining ingredients (except for water):

3. Process for about a minute or so until it looks like this:

4. Whilst the processor is going add in a little bit of water drop at a time until the crumbs start to join together and look more like this:

You want the mixture to be able to hold together but not feel ‘wet’.  If you’ve added too much water add some more dry ingredients (almond meal is good if you have it to absorb the moisture).  Process until the desired texture – I still like mine to have a bit of crunch so don’t process it into a smooth paste, but you can.

5.  Roll into balls and you can if you want to roll them in extra coconut – shredded or desiccated or in sesame seeds, cacao or just leave plain.

6. Refrigerate or freeze until you are ready to eat! YUM.

Chocolate bliss balls – taste like lamingtons!  This is I think my best chocolate one yet
